Freethinkers' Forum: Using Humanist Principles in Making Decisions

  • Sunday, June 14, 2026
  • 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
  • online

RSVP on the Freethinkers' Forum Meetup page.

Dorothy Bracey will help us explore using Humanist principles in making decisions that affect our lives. Actions that require a choice between a clear good and evil should be easy. But many of the situations that confront us are not all that simple. Can Humanist values help us to decide how to act when forced to choose one among several goods or several evils? Let’s look at some hypothetical situations and see if Humanism can help us deal with them.

Dorothy Bracey is Professor Emeritus of Anthropology and Criminal Justice at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York. Her work has focused on the ways in which various cultures deal with these questions

Freethinkers Forum meets the second Sunday of every month from noon - 1:30 pm in a hybrid format, in person at UU Santa Fe on the corner of Barcelona and Galisteo, and via zoom. To get the zoom link, go to Events on our meetup site, and click that you will attend, then you can access the zoom link at the Online event icon.

We are a gathering of freethinkers and humanists, people from all faiths or none, who come together to discuss collaboratively-chosen topics, to listen with open minds, share with open hearts, work together on social activism projects and share supportive community. Our general format is a short presentation followed by an hour or so of open discussion of the subject. All are welcome, and all outlooks on the topics are respected. We aim to learn from each other and celebrate our diversity!
