HumANist society of New Mexico

HUMANIST SOCIETY OF NEW MEXICO

The Humanist Society of New Mexico is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  We're a chapter of the American Humanist Association. We're also affiliated with the Council for Secular Humanism at the Center for Inquiry.

We are a statewide organization. While our leadership and meetings are in Albuquerque, we eagerly support efforts to form satellite groups. The Humanist Society of New Mexico strives to provide a community where everyone may learn about and share these principles in a friendly, respectful and joyful environment.

American Humanist Association

The Humanist Society of New Mexico is the only chapter of the American Humanist Association in New Mexico. The AHA strives to bring about a progressive society where being good without a god is an accepted and respected way to live life. They accomplish this through the defense of civil liberties and secular governance, by outreach to the growing number of people without traditional religious faith, and through a continued refinement and advancement of the humanist worldview.

Humanist Manifesto III

Humanism is a progressive philosophy of life that, without supernaturalism, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good of humanity.

The lifestance of Humanism—guided by reason, inspired by compassion, and informed by experience—encourages us to live life well and fully. It evolved through the ages and continues to develop through the efforts of thoughtful people who recognize that values and ideals, however carefully wrought, are subject to change as our knowledge and understandings advance.

“I am a humanist, which means, in part, that I have tried to behave decently without rewards or punishment after I am dead.” -- Kurt  Vonnegut, 1994 Humanist of the Year and Past AHA Honorary President
